What a cracking first weekend of this year’s Worcester Festival – and we’re only just getting started!
Celebration was rife, with the impressive sound of the magnificent Cathedral bells ringing out across Worcester to mark the start of the Festival. The Festival was then officially opened by the Mayor of Worcester, with the Gugge 2000 band then taking to the stage, painting the town yellow and black, filling the High Street with loud, feel-good brass and percussion music.

Down by the river, the annual St Richard’s Hospice Duck Race was a huge success! Lots of people turned out and sponsored a duck, raising a massive £2840 – that’s just quackers! Not only that, the St Richard’s Celebration Garden was planted with over a thousand stunning hand-crafted snowdrops surrounding St Andrew’s Spire in the city, creating a spectacular focal point for celebration and reflection. The Garden is open for the duration of the Worcester Festival and you can donate to enjoy the flower as a keepsake at the end of the two-week display. Families have been getting crafty at the newly re-developed Royal Porcelain Works, making magical Unicorn and Dragon themed creations at the recently opened Henry Sandon Hall and painting their own Worcester Stands Tall miniature giraffe at the Samuel Driver White Suite. Both of these fabulous activites were packed full, but there’s still plenty of opportunities to get your creative juices flowing over the next couple of weeks. Why not visit Worcester Cathedral for a Hands on History Children’s Activities including Knitting Workshop this Wednesday or Friday (15th & 17th August) and travel back to the Marvellous Middle Ages and find out what life was like through fun family crafts and activities at the Commandery.

The creativity doesn’t stop there! The fabulous Funky Faces Face Painting have been working their magic, turning people’s faces into canvases – what will you choose to be? From beautiful butterflies to super heroes, there’s something for everyone! Don’t miss them in Crowngate this Friday and Saturday (17th & 18th August), Saturday 25th, and they’ll be at the Swan Summer Fête on Sunday 26th!
