When comedy writer, Paul Mayhew-Archer, was told he had Parkinson’s he refused to take his serious illness too seriously. Instead, he started doing jokes about it, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and London’s Comedy Store. In 2015 he made an award-winning documentary about it called Parkinson’s – The Funny Side, in 2018 he started performing his one-man show about it, Incurable Optimist and recently, along with Jeremy Paxman and Rory Cellan-Jones, he’s started doing a podcast about it called Movers and Shakers.
Meanwhile his wife lives in constant hope that a cure will be found so that he’ll finally shut up about it. Purchase tickets at Eventbrite. Tickets will be available on the door, but pre-booking is advised to guarantee your space.
Incurable Optimist isn’t just about Parkinson’s. It’s also about a life spent trying to make us laugh. As a writer, producer or script editor Paul has worked
on countless shows including I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue, Spitting image, Mrs Brown’s Boys, and Miranda. All proceeds from tonight will be donated to
Parkinson’s UK. This event is supported by the Worcester and District of Parkinson’s UK.
